Texas Parent to Parent

Visit Website - Texas Parent to Parent provides support, information, and education for families of children and adults with disabilities, chronic and mental health conditions and other health care needs.

Disability Rights Texas

Visit Website - Disability Rights Texas is a federally funded legal agency that supports people with disabilities, including with respect to special education, social security, Medicaid and employment.

The ARC of Texas

View Website - The Arc of Texas and its chapters throughout Texas organize training for parents on guardianships and they provide case management and other supports and services, including a pooled special needs trust.

Local Mental Health and Intellectual and Developmental Disability Authorities (LIDDA)

View Website - LIDDA is a state agency that works with local centers to serve children and adults living with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities, making sure they have the tools they need to thrive. Their role is to create opportunities for people to form healthy relationships, live in the community and lead meaningful lives. Services are available regardless of ability to pay and can be provided in many languages. They have service coordinators and family grants to help families with children with disabilities.

Texas Workforce Solutions Vocational Rehabilitation Services (TWS-VRS)

Visit Website - The Texas Workforce Solutions Vocational Rehabilitation Services (TWS-VRS) can help people with physical or mental disabilities prepare for, find or keep a job.

Early Childhood Intervention Services (ECI)

Visit Website - ECI is a statewide program for families with children, birth to three, with disabilities and developmental delays. ECI supports families to help their children reach their potential through developmental services. Services are provided by a variety of local agencies and organizations across Texas.

Aging and Disability Resource Center (ADRC)

Visit Website - ADRC is a project of the TEA and created by parents for parents. It is committed to providing accurate and consistent information to parents and families of students with disabilities.

Guardianship

Visit Website - Some people may need a guardian if they are unable to make decisions, care for themself, or manage personal or financial affairs due to a mental or physical disability. Guardianship is a legal relationship where an individual (the guardian) is appointed by a court to make decisions and manage the personal and financial affairs of an incapacitated person (the ward).

The Texas Health and Human Services (HHS) has a Guardianship Services Program and may become involved in the guardianship. Get the Texas Guide to Adult Guardianship.

Special Olympics of Texas

Visit Website - The mission of Special Olympics Texas is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities [mental retardation], giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in the sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.

Austin Travis County Integral Care Behavior Health and Developmental Disabilities Services

Visit Website - Austin Travis County Integral Care is provides community-based behavioral health and developmental disabilities in Travis County, administering an annual budget of $50 million of local, state and federal funding  at 44 physical facilities. In the last year, Integral Care served more than 22,000 individuals and families, offering numerous services and programs year-round.

Centers for Independent Living (CILs)

View Website - Located throughout the state, CILs are nonresidential nonprofit organizations that help people with disabilities achieve their independent living goals.
